Dear Dad,

Yesterday I read this quote and of course I could only think of you.

Hudson Taylor, founder of China Inland Mission, in the closing months of his life said to a friend, “I am so weak. I can’t read my Bible. I can’t even pray. I can only lie still in God’s arms like a little child and trust.”

From what I understand, your days now consist of lying still. Your eyes almost never open, and your voice is rarely heard. What you are absorbing of the world around you is unknown. On our last video call, you did muster some language but it was limited and hard to decode. You couldn't lift your eyelids despite gentle appeals.

Which is why Taylor's words touched my heart. "I can only lie still in God's arms like a little child and trust." When I shared them with Mom, she wrote: "Wonderful thought!"

Dear Dad, when I pray for you, I ask Jesus to be right beside you in your mind, wherever it takes you. I wish I could be beside you in person, even in the silence, just to be there for the father who was always there for me. I love you and I miss you, and I trust you to God's arms.

All my love,

Steph
